Hello Racers!
It’s time to celebrate the 20th season of the ISF! I think 20 years of doing anything is worth a little bit of a celebration so that is what we will do this year for the 20th ISF season. After this year all rules and divisions and everything about the league is up for discussion.
In the meantime here are some fun things about the 20th season and I look forward to seeing all of you at a race sometime this year!
Whether you've raced with with us once or for 20 seasons, you are invited to join us this year for any or all races!
GTP
Let's start with the GTP. Since a lot of people have invested money into new cars I am excited to see an exciting looking field this year. As a result we will have more GTP races than usual. As usual you can race any prototype body from 1970 on up that was raced at LeMans as long as it can fit on an AFX super G plus chassis. The super G plus chassis and bodies remain stock (except for painting and wing repair) with stock everything except for rear rims and tires. Tires will be supplied by the league and are the same tires as last year. If you need tires the league will supply tires at three dollars per pair.
New for this year is the return of the Tyco open cockpit racers. Many years ago we allowed this type of car to race alongside the Super G+ chassis. They were pretty competitive at some tracks. If you wish to race one of these cars in GTP you can.
If you choose to race a Tyco, Cars must be Tyco 440x2 pan chassis with stock magnets and unmodified body (except paint and wing repair). Silver springs, brushes, pick up shoes can be used. Tyco ski shoes are also legal. You are also allowed to run any type of front and rear tire you wish.Stock arm must be used. If you are not sure what this car looks like, see attached picture.
Qualifying will be the same. 3 laps. Races where two GTP events are held, the first race is grided based on ISF traditional qualifying. The second race starting order will have the heats be the reverse order of the finish of the first race. (first heat will be the slower cars-last heat top four finishers). There is no pole position or automatic advance.
There will be up to four heat races. Winners advance to final. If there are 11 drivers or less, winners of the heats and the driver (or drivers) with the next highest lap totals will advance (i.e. if nine racers are there = 3 heats moving the winners and next highest total laps of the remaining racers advance).
Your two lowest point finishes will be dropped, with the rest of the races counting toward the GTP championship.
GT
We will also bring back the GT series at least for one race. In the history of the ISF this division used several different kinds of chassis. In this spirit, for any GT races you can race any AFX Tommy Turbo, AFX Super G, Tyco 440x2 pan or narrow, Tyco 440, or AFX SRT chassis as long as it is completely stock, and can fit the same slip on tires we used last year. Bodies can be any closed cockpit GT body that raced at LeMans from 1970 on up, and includes the GT40, just please use a car that looks like it could be a real race car. No tanks, fire engines, etc. This is a "run what you brung" event so some brands of cars will be faster than others while some will grip better. This is a fun chance to race something not normally run in ISF. It can also be a fun way to see what are the advantages of running one type of chassis versus another. We never ran the short MegaG chassis, however we will allow it for this year.
The only chassis you can't run in this division is an AFX Super G+.
The only chassis you can't run in this division is an AFX Super G+.
Qualifying:
3 laps. fastest lap determines grid position. Run what you brung. We will then grid the field and run the heats the same as John uses in the SHMUC championship (thanks JW!)
LMP
We will also bring back the LMP division for at least one race. This might be expanded to two races later on, I'll have more details on the chassis rules in the F1 section however suffice to say here we will be running the Mega G LMP bodies. You do not need to supply a Mega G car. We will be using league supplied "club car" chassis. If you have a mega G body that you wish to race please bring it. More details on how we will be running the LMP division are under the F1 section as we will use the same rules for both.
Qualifying:
3 laps. Traditional ISF qualifying.
F1
For the F1 division we will run one race under normal F1 rules.
This includes pitstops and stock tires. Stock tires will once again be supplied by the league.
Slick tires are once again the same that we ran last year. If you need a new set of tires believe will have some or you can purchase for three dollars.
We will also be running one or two F1 races using the mega G bodies and chassis. I know everybody hates those cars, but you do have to admit they look cool.
***TWIST***
Since many of us got rid of our MegaG cars (or never had any), the league has obtained a fleet of chassis that we will use as club cars. If you have a MegaG chassis you cannot run it. If you wish to run your own body I encourage that as we need extra bodies. Stock MegaG tires will be replaced before the race by the league.
***TWIST 2***
There is no open practice for this division using the MegaG cars. Drivers will be split into groups of 3-4 and given a five minute warm up.
Everyone picks a chassis at the beginning of the practice period. Drivers can rotate lanes as often as they wish and run as many laps wanted during the alloted five minutes
***TWIST 3***
At any point in practice a driver can trade their club car for another club car. The driver can trade their original car twice. Once the third car is chosen the driver must stay with that car.
Qualifying is normal rules of three laps. Names are drawn for qualifying order.
There is a minimum time pitstop, drivers will have to stop for a minimum of 15 seconds and can do so anytime after the first minute of racing but have to have stopped no later than one minute remaining (pitstops do not have to be completed by the one minute remaining mark, but that car has to stopped in the pit box by that time. Every lap beyond one minute remaining results in additional five seconds added).
Driver do not change tires but are allowed to rotate tires.
The rules above are also applied to the LMP division, except there is no mandatory pitstop.
General items:
1. schedule is at the bottom of this email
2. No Deckertring but the return of Southshore and Badger Raceway
3. Possible new track
4. Fall and early winter will be ISF with SHMUC taking over in the spring
5. The twists in the rules are ones suggested and are just for fun
